On 23 December, starting from 7.45 a.m. it is possible to observe the winter solstice inside Saint Elia’s Basilica. The sunlight, from dawn until sunset, will enter the Romanic Basilica ‘’opening heaven’s gates’’, such as discovered by the researcher Stefano Cavalieri, writer of the book Il Tempio d’Inverno. Cavalieri rediscovered the natural play of light that happens inside the church on the year’s shortest day, with light beams creating suggestive projections in the Basilica.
